Suzanne Day 2 - Good memories

Jessica was so excited today, as she always is when her uncle Ray came to take her to what she considered another adventure. For those short hours, she could escape the confines of her life. The expectations of her family felt like a straitjacket, and she sometimes wondered if she had been adopted. She knew even at her young age, that most people would give anything to have the lifestyle that she has. Opulent home, cook, maids, ground keepers, and anything she wanted she could get. The problem was that she did not want any of those things, except Star her quarter horse that she loved. She just wanted to ride and be with her uncle Ray.

When he arrived, he gave her a big hug. She never got hugs from her parents.

“Let’s go kiddo,”

Jessica gave her uncle a huge smile as she followed him to his truck, which was not the latest but she loved it. Her parents wouldn’t be caught dead in anything but the latest and best of vehicles.

Her uncle was a detective for the Toronto police. He was an excellent detective and had received many commendations. Jessica would always bombard him with questions about being a detective, so he devised a “game” for the two of them. They would go to a different place each time and he would have her carefully look around and try to memorize what she saw. He would then ask her to close her eyes and tell him what she saw. As time went on, she got better. She loved this game.

Afterwards they would go to one of their favourite places to eat and of course have a special treat after.

Jessica became a police detective and loved her job. Remembering the special times with her uncle, especially when things got tough or after her parents monthly phone calls always helped. There were times at work that she swore he was talking to her during an investigation. It always helped. Was it really him or just the memories?
