OBJECTIVE: I WANT TO MOLD THIS INTO A FIRST MEETING SCENE.

CAME FROM THE VISUALS IN OCTOBER’S WORDFLOW SESSION.

Kathrin is the lead character in the TV series Shelter. Her two children, Liana and JD (Jonathan David) have not seen one another in 15 years. JD has no idea his sister has moved back to NYC.

It's a visual prompt of a tree trees actually full lush park in front of water 4 big trees and a figure walking along the water and it's a perfect setup because the uh the tip is location location location and what I wanted to work on was the meaning of Liana with her brother Johnathon David “JD” and haphazardly they meet in Central Park.

Liana has just seen her mother for the first time in 15 years at a tense client/lawyer meeting. Liana is defending a man accused of abuse. She walks to sort through her feelings and her emotions and what is going on. er contact with her brother has decreased over the years to where it is now nothing I don't think she's communicated with him in a couple of years and I think that he was the one that cut it off if she's been gone for 15 years she's 32 and he is 25/24

So JD is finishing up grad school at NYU, he is in the arts, a painter I think his imagination works in images, words frighten him because he has seen the damage that words can do. He adores his mother, he is in communication with his father, he has focused all his anger on his sister who abandoned him and he doesn't know why and Christmas cards and birthday cards and promises to come and visit him which have never been fulfilled so he had expectations of her none of which she has fulfilled and so she gets all his anger. I think he has a studio, is it in Queens or Brooklyn? I have to think about that um I think he is very much a young man and what I mean by that is he is finding his way, his passion is his art - puppets - isn't that interesting he could really like puppets and he's a painter and he's a set designer he went to Juilliard, he is so different and yet he is so much the same, the one adult he trusts is his mother, she has been straight with him, which wasn't always comfortable, but now at 25 he can see she was there even if he didn't like what she said necessarily, she never lied to him, she never promised something she couldn't deliver. He is aware of her history - in several ways - he's gathered the information, he's done research on her God bless the web, he’s lived it and then he's talked to her about it as well. (NEW SCENE - Hoh that's that's something I could look at is what was that first conversation of truth about?) What the fuck it was going to be so easy I just adjust I didn't expect to have all these emotions come bubbling up again I didn't expect to view her as my mother and not my enemy I didn't I have got to sort through all this take a breath keep walking keep walking keep up the pace that's it just breathe just breathe that's it deep breaths and release I'm in the park I love this place I've missed Central Park I have missed the joy of this anonymity that is provided here this is truly wonderful… ohh my look at what's running towards me… ohh I'm such a dirty old woman… isn't he a beauty hmm very nice then go say hello well he's running take your time just enjoy the view smile not that's a girl that a girl that a girl that was very nice…..

OK I've got to get these puppets done for the show I've got a month and I'm not the director, ohh forget the director, I've read the script I know what it's about I know where I think the puppets could really really um contradict the action that's what I want them to do I want them to…I wonder I wonder if the writer OK so just put my thoughts down do the drawings um do I want them scary? I'm not sure if I want them scary, oh I hate running on concrete oh God I should have gone to the track this morning but it's too beautiful. I love being in the park. what if…what if the puppets are are um um broken in some way you know like one arm doesn't work or one side of the face oh I like that - one side of the face doesn't work um and no AI on this one, that was before, this one is really the opposite of what is going on and can I inhale, oh who's that girl coming towards me? isn't that…who is that woman? Liana. Liana stop!

Liana stops abruptly.

LIANA

My head just exploded did I really hear what WHO I think I heard? could it be possible? could it be possible OK just stand still for a moment. Breathe. I can't, I have no air there's no air

Liana slowly turns around.
