Day 2 Never a Dull Moments

Wordflow public

“Hey Shar, look over my shoulder, sitting next to the window. That’s the immigration officer that kept the new satellite phone when we arrived.” James whispers, while twitching his head towards the far side of the cafe.

Shar changes the angle of her chair, making the line of sight less conspicuous. “Wow, he looks so different in street clothes. I wouldn't have recognized him.” her eyes darting back and forth while speaking under her breath.

“I don't want him to see us.” James pulls the brim of his ball cap low, shading his eyes.

“Is that the guy you reported to the government?”

“Ya, let's slip out of here, quietly.”

“Ok, put cash on the table. We can stand up together. You head to the door. I’ll swing my coat on and follow you, blocking your back. Don’t pass the windows. We can walk around the block to the car.” Shar thinks the plan through faster than James can take action.

James slids some Guyanese dollars under the coffee cup as he rises.

Once out the door, they hear someone calling. “Hey you two! Wait!

Wait!

Both Shar and James freeze in their tracks. Barely out the door. Looking at each other, questions in their eyes. Run, turn around or wait for the bullets.

You forgot your briefcase? The busboy, a young Guyanese teenager hands over the brown leather case.

“Oh thank you so much” Shar oozes with gratitude while passing a few coins in his palm as he returns to work, with a smile on his face.

“Phew!” James let's out a breath with the force of a Hoodoo wind.

My life is in this case not to mention a handful of diamonds.”
